    Asynchronous Lessons (Blizzard Bags)
Mount de Sales utilizes a “Blizzard Bag” protocol. If school is closed due to inclement weather, instead of logging in for 100% virtual lessons, students would receive a posted “asynchronous lesson”.

As Mount de Sales Academy is operating under a Modified Learning Platform for the 2020-2021 school year, no snow days have been allocated to the academic calendar. Therefore, “Blizzard Bags” will begin with the first snow closing.

    Blizzard Bag Protocol
    1. All students must check their Canvas pages after 9:45 a.m. Work that has been assigned is REQUIRED CLASSWORK.

    2. Teachers will post their assignment to their Canvas class page by 9:45 a.m. that day.

    3. Teachers will send students a message via Canvas, alerting them that the assignment has been uploaded along with any other details regarding the assignment.

    4. Assignments will be designed so as to move the curriculum forward.

    5. The entire assignment for a class should not exceed 50 minutes. (With 4 classes in a day that would mean you should have approximately 3 ½-4 hours of schoolwork.)

    6. Keep in mind, you will still need to complete your assigned homework from the previous day.

    7. Blizzard Bag work should not be due the same day it is assigned. Typically, it should be due the next class or, if it is a larger project, on a reasonable due date.

THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THIS GUIDELINE IS FOR THOSE WHO HAD A PRE-ASSIGNED QUIZ/TEST.
    • If your teacher had a quiz/test planned for that day, they may require you to take that test/quiz.  This would be your only Blizzard Bag assignments for the day for that class
    • You would have until the end of the day to complete the quiz/test.

    8. If you have lost power, or internet service it is YOUR responsibility to alert the teacher immediately.
For the weeks of January 25 and February 5, we will move to Rotation B, which is 25% of the students for in-person learning.

Beginning on February 8, we will move to Rotation A, which is 50% of the students for in-person learning.

Out of State Travel Policy

  • Please be advised that the CDC has issued guidelines for travel during this outbreak of COVID-19. We ask that, for the safety of your family and the MDSA community, you please adhere to these guidelines, which you can view here.

As per the Order of the Governor of the State of Maryland Number 20-12-17-01 Authorizing Quarantine and/or Testing of Travelers, Mount de Sales Academy has revised the travel policy for student, faculty and staff.

Students:  Parents of students electing to proceed with travel will be required to meet the following criteria prior to re-entering school.  Any student returning from out-of-state or international travel will be required to be tested for COVID-19 promptly upon arrival in Maryland.  Those traveling will be required to quarantine upon their return until such time as either they provide evidence of a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 and are asymptomatic or they complete an entire 10 day quarantine. Please note: We will not accept “at home” COVID tests.

Faculty/Staff:  Any Faculty/Staff returning from out-of-state or international travel will be required to be tested to be tested for COVID-19 promptly upon arrival in Maryland.  Those traveling will be required to quarantine upon their return until such time as either they provide evidence of a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 and are asymptomatic or they complete an entire 10 day quarantine.

In summary the impact to travel is as follow:

    • All out of State and International travel is now subject to the travel health order. Per the order individuals are discouraged from travel to any state or international destination. This travel restriction applies to all states and international destination except, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC.

    • There is no longer a threshold to consider such as a positivity rate of 10%. This  travel order applies to all travel with the exempted states noted above.

    • The period of quarantine is now reduced from 14 to 10 days.

    • Individuals can secure a COVID-19 test immediately upon return to the State of Maryland. With a negative PCR test result they are then released from the quarantine. Please note: We will not accept “at home” COVID tests.
The following website provides information regarding the positivity rate for all 50 states, UD Territories and popular international destinations.

MDSA Attendance Protocols within Modified Learning Platform

Students following the Hybrid Model
Students who are following the Hybrid Model will attend school in the building on specific days of the week.  Please read through the following clarifications in order to determine what to do should a student be unable to attend school in person on her specific day.
  • Hybrid students MAY ATTEND CLASSES VIRTUALLY on the day they were to attend in person IF they are well enough to log in and participate. If a student is very ill, we advise them NOT to log in.
  • A parent/guardian MUST email the school secretary at dgeorgieff@mountdesales.org and alert her of the absence or choice for virtual for the day. Options:
    • My daughter is out sick and will not be logging in to her classes
    • My daughter is out sick today but will be able to attend her classes virtually
  • If your daughter has been exposed to the Covid-19 virus or is being tested she must stay out of school. In addition to emailing the school secretary, parents are asked to email the school nurses immediately at: nurse@mountdesales.org

  • If your daughter has been exposed to the Covid-19 virus or is being tested, a parent or guardian is asked to email the school nurses immediately at: nurse@mountdesales.org

Back to School FAQ

List of 7 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: Will students, faculty and staff be required to socially distance and wear masks?

Whenever and wherever possible, Mount de Sales Academy will practice social distancing. In the classroom, there will be a minimum of four feet between students and six feet between the teacher and students.

All individuals on campus will be required to wear masks when inside a building, in common areas, and whenever 6 feet distancing is not possible (including outside). Teachers will also be provided with face shields. Face shields may be worn in addition to a mask, but may not replace masks. Masks must be worn that completely cover the nose and mouth. Masks must be plain, solid in color, and must not contain words, logos, abbreviations, or images. Mount de Sales branded masks will be permitted.
  • Q: What additional hygiene and cleaning measures is MDSA taking?

Student hygiene is paramount and hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes will be available throughout the school. We also encourage students to proactively bring their own personal-size hand sanitizer or hand-sanitizing wipes to use throughout the day and to wash their hands and disinfect their personal spaces regularly.

Students will help to disinfect their own areas of use after each class. The Mount de Sales maintenance employees will continue to clean and disinfect all areas throughout the day.
  • Q: Will there be daily health and temperature screenings?

Students will be required to fill out a wellness self-check form before coming to school each day.
Students will be randomly checked for temperatures upon arrival at school and throughout the school day. If the reading is 100.0° or above, they will be required to go home. To assist us in our screening efforts, it is imperative all members of the community stay home when they feel sick. Your help will greatly support our efforts to maintain the health of our faculty, staff and students.
  • Q: Will there be fall sports?

The IAAM has canceled fall sports for this upcoming season.  Our MDSA athletics programs will continue to provide programs where our athletes may come together for strength conditioning, workouts, and team-building throughout the fall. We will follow all IAAM guidelines and schedules for athletics.
  • Q: Will food service be available?

Until at least October 1, students will need to bring their lunches to school. Vending machines and microwaves will also be available for the students.

During the month of October, students have the option to pre-order boxed lunches on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Q: Will Before and After Care still be available?

Our daily start time remains the same. Students may arrive at 7:00 a.m., and the first bell will ring at 8:00 a.m. We will continue to provide regularly scheduled Before Care and After Care for our students.
  • Q: Can/how do I switch between in-person learning and 100% virtual learning?

Students may switch from in-person learning to 100% virtual, or 100% virtual to in-person learning at anytime. To make this request, families can email mdsavirtual@mountdesales.org.
