Social Science Department

History and the social sciences linked to it form the bedrock of a liberal arts education. By examining records of political, intellectual, social, and economic experiences of the human community from the earliest times to the present, students learn to understand themselves and the world in which they live. The History Department at Mount de Sales encourages in students a desire for lifelong learning so that they will be informed and engaged citizens of the world.  Courses in history and the social sciences also incorporate the social teachings of the Church and principles of the Catholic intellectual tradition.  Through the study of history, civics, psychology, geography and economics, students gain the tools to read and think critically, to write and communicate effectively, and to make connections, interpret information, and analyze ideas.
