Welcome to the Mount de Sales Academy family!

We wish you the best of luck as your complete your 8th grade school year and we are looking forward to the fall when you will join with your classmates as the Class of 2022! Here you will find important information for accepted students such as upcoming events, necessary forms, and how to keep in touch. The Course Selection Packet will be handed out to all incoming freshmen at the Accepted Students Night on February 22.  If you are unable to attend, your packet will be mailed to you.

Important Forms: Due March 10 (forms may be mailed, dropped off at the MDSA front desk, or brought in on placement testing day)

2. Placement Testing –We offer placement testing in Math, English, Social Science, Science and Foreign Language

• Math Placement Test – REQUIRED
o All incoming freshmen must register to take a Math placement test. 
o All incoming freshmen must give the Math Verification Form to their current math teacher  - This form is due by March 10.  It is also available on our MDSA website under the Admissions “Accepted Students” tab. 

A note about Math placement:To ensure proper math placement we offer three different placement tests:

Concepts Test: for students who have or are taking Math 8 or Pre-Algebra; or for a student who is currently taking Algebra I and needs more skill acquisition. Determines Algebra I placement. Students MAY NOT use a calculator on this test.

Algebra Test: for students who have or are taking Algebra I; student scores consistently well in math.  Determines placement for Algebra 1, Integrated Geometry, Geometry or Honors Geometry.  Students MAY NOT use a calculator on this test.

Algebra/Geometry Test: for students who have taken Algebra I and Geometry and consistently score well.  Determines if the student has enough Algebra I and Geometry foundation to move into Algebra II.  Calculators allowed.

• Foreign Language Placement Test –  REQUIRED 
Students who have taken more than one year of the language they are selecting OR have speaking experience in that language, MUST take a placement test in that language.

English/Social Science Placement Test – OPTIONAL 
o Prerequisites to place into Honors English and/or Honors Social Science are:

  • Consistent A average in Language Arts and History courses
  • Scored Above Average or within the 90th percentile on previous standardized testing
  • MDSA Placement Test which shows an advanced ability in writing
  • This placement test consists of a writing sample and is used for both English and Social Science placement.

• Science Placement Test -OPTIONAL
o Prerequisites for Honors Biology are:

  • Consistent A average in Science and Language Arts courses
  • Above Average Math scores on previous standardized testing
  • MDSA Science Placement Test which shows an advanced knowledge of science 

Course Selection

The Mount de Sales curriculum challenges each student at her individual ability in every subject area. Each level (Level 1, Level 2 and Honors) is college-preparatory and thoroughly prepares our students for admission into national four-year colleges and universities.   • Read the weekly Sailor Mail email and the bi-weekly Parents' Club Newsletter. All enrolled families will be included in these electronic mailings using email addresses from the admissions application. New families will begin receiving these messages after Easter Break.  
  • Attend the monthly Parents’ Club meetings, held at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in the Bird Room (meeting room across the hall from the school lobby).
