Theatre + Dramatic Arts

To enter a theatre for a performance is to be inducted into a magical space, to be
ushered into the sacred arena of the imagination.
- Simon Callow
The drama classes provide opportunities to develop both performance technique and technical skills. The curriculum promotes self-awareness and confidence and the use of careful analysis of cultural and historical contexts for expressive choices. Students learn to work independently and collaboratively in a creative atmosphere and are given the opportunity to showcase what they have learned in class at the Fine Arts Festival, and student produced one act plays. Honors level classes are available for both theatre design and dramatic performance.

In addition to the honors classes, Mount de Sales has an International Thespian Society troupe. Upperclassmen may apply and membership is based on academy excellence and theatrical experience. The troupe’s goal is to share its expertise with the community through workshops, small performances, and service-based activities.

The winter musical production is an extracurricular activity that provides an opportunity for all MDSA students to perform onstage, play in the pit, or work in stage crew. Rehearsals are held after school first at Mount de Sales and later at Mt. St. Joseph High School who generously allows us to use their auditorium for our show.
