Track Team Excels at New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Sailors Set Historic Track Record

Eight Mount de Sales girls spent an extra month of training for the New Balance Outdoor National High School Track and Field Championships, June 17-19, following the completion of the regular season. That dedication led the Sailors to their fifth straight outdoor Nationals appearance in Greensboro, N.C., with five relay teams and one individual qualifying to compete. They came home with a pair of new school records and four top 20 placements against the best in the country.

MDSA Alumnae Return this Summer

Lindsay Manser '12 and Kayli Burns '13 will be assisting at this year’s Sailor Soccer Camp from June 22-25. Kayli is currently a rising junior at Christopher Newport University studying biology. Lindsay is a rising senior at Mount St. Mary's University studying business marketing. Both Kayli and Lindsay played soccer during their four years at MDSA and are very excited to be coming back to help at camp. When asked about her favorite memory about soccer camp, Kayli said, "I have enjoyed coming back the past couple of years and watching the progress of the girls who have been coming since they were in sixth grade, as well as seeing the incoming talent for the JV and Varsity teams." Young ladies who are rising sixth graders to rising juniors in high school are encouraged to attend! You will learn valuable soccer skills while participating in fun games and competitions. MDSA Cheerleaders Earn First Place!

On Sat. Jan. 24, the MDSA Cheerleaders earned first place in the Varsity School Cheer Intermediate category at the Maryland Cup Nationals Cheer Competition in Upper Marlboro, MD. The team was down three girls and they rallied in true Sailor spirit to compete. Kudos to coaches Lindsey and Kelsey who revamped the routine in an hour and encouraged the team to finish strong! Indoor Track Speeds Ahead

This past Saturday, January 10, the Mount de Sales Indoor Track team competed at the Montgomery Invitational against 15 other top teams. The distance medley relay team ran a Mount de Sales school record and the fastest Maryland high school time for the event this year. The team placed second for the event with a time of 12:39.38. Athletic Director and Three Students Attend IAAM Leadership Conference

The 2nd annual IAAM Leadership Conference will be held on Thursday, October 2 at St. Timothy's School. The keynote speaker is Missy Meharg, head field hockey coach at University of Maryland. Mount de Sales will be represented by Taylor Forgen '17, Hannah Ignacio '16, Caroline Arnold '16 and Annie McDonald, athletic director. Throughout the morning, the girls will attend three breakout sessions with presentations on different aspects of student athlete leadership. This provides a great opportunity to gain knowledge from the presentations geared toward student leaders in athletics as well as interact with other student athletic leaders in the league. "Our goal for this half-day session is to engage a diverse and dynamic representation of our student-athletes and coaches and provide pertinent and customized sessions that will enhance personal awareness, improve leadership skills and hopefully bring key learning and information back to your school community." - IAAM

Cross Country Team Triumph at Bull Run Invitation!

The Mount de Sales varsity Cross Country team displays their championship awards from the Bull Run Invitational at Hereford High School on September 27. The Sailors defeated 28 public and private schools in the meet's Small Schools Division. The team won with 55 points and placed all seven of its varsity runners in the top 36 of 175 finishers in the division.

Recent Grad Conquers the Chesapeake!

Congratulations to Allie Caulfield 14’ who swam in the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim on Sunday, June 8. She finished in 5th place in the female division and 32nd overall, with a time of 1:47:22. Allie showcased her endurance and bravery during this 4.4-mile race. The Great Chesapeake Bay Swim is an incredible challenge; it requires both physical and mental stamina to conquer the Bay Swim. Awesome job!

The Mount de Sales 4x800 meter relay team stood on the top rung of the IAAM Track and Field Championship podium after setting a new meet record of 9-minutes, 26.10-seconds. Sailors set records at the 2014 New Balance Nationals Indoor

A team of ten MDSA girls traveled to New York City for the annual 2014 New Balance Nationals Indoor on March 14-16, and came home with school records and national honors. A highlight of the three day meet was senior Jess Harris’ fourth place in the championship division 800 meter run that earned her All American status. Harris’ final time is also the fourth best run in the U.S. this winter by a high school girl. Harris became the first MDSA indoor track All American. Her time was a school record as well as the best time run by a high school student in Maryland this season.

On Saturday, February 15, Mount de Sales’ Indoor Track Relay team comprised of Jessica Harris '14, Katrina Hrabinski '15, Caroline Arnold '16, and Cecilia Craig '16, competed in the Millrose Games’ Eastern Girls 4x800 relay in New York. The Millrose meet was an invitation only competition with just 6 to 12 individual athletes or relay teams invited to participate in each event.

The Mount de Sales Academy Varsity basketball team will host St. Cecilia Academy from Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday, January 21 at 4:00 p.m. Students from St. Cecilia’s will travel to Maryland to attend the March for Life. This year marks the first time these two schools will face off in a basketball game. Following the game, TFCA will host the iPray for Life at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Frances de Sales Chapel. Field Hockey Team wins the IAAM B Conference Championship

The top-seeded MDSA field hockey team won their second IAAM B Conference championship in three years on Sunday, November 3 at Goucher College as they defeated second-seeded Maryvale Prep. The game began with Mount de Sales taking an early 2-0 lead with goals from seniors Amanda Ignacio and Leah DiGiandomenico. Maryvale came back and tied the game in the second half, sending the game to the first overtime. Neither team could score in the first overtime, sending the game to a second overtime.

Field Hockey Team breaks into the Top Ten!

Mount de Sales' field hockey team advanced to 10-0 on Monday after defeating South River. The number 9 ranked Sailors will face off against Friends on Homecoming Day, October 5, at 12:30. The field hockey team seeks another IAAM Championship after winning in 2011.

The Mount de Sales field hockey team won the Centennial Tournament on Saturday, Sept 7 for the second year in a row! First round the Sailors had a shut-out against Franklin High School, with a score of 4-0.

Lacrosse players are making the news!

MDSA senior Amanda Ignacio was recently named to the girls lacrosse Senior Watch List released by Inside Lacrosse magazine. This is an exclusive list of 19 girls from all around the country. Over the summer Ignacio was named to the Under Armour All-America Underclass Tournament representing Baltimore. Her game winning goal against Long Island helped bring Baltimore an 11-10 victory in the tournament. Ignacio has committed to Georgetown University.

Sailor Softball Catcher Excels on Travel Team

Abby Zalucki ’15 catches for the Western Howard County 15U Fever travel softball team. The team plays Class A Softball in a 16U age group and this season had a record of 43-9-3. They won ASA “A” States and were one of the youngest teams to ever win.

Athlete/Parent Meeting for August 14, 2013 is rescheduled

Over the summer, the Athletic Department met to look over our school athletic programs. As a result, the department has revised the structure of the beginning-of-the-year athletic meetings. The Wednesday evening athletic parent meeting scheduled for August 14 has been rescheduled.

MDSA Field Hockey players compete at US Field Hockey National Club Championship

US Field Hockey National Club Championship concluded this week with the top 16 teams in the country competing in each age group. Mount de Sales Academy had four representatives in this National Tournament. Riley Gentner ’15 and Laura Gretz ’15 played with H20 Club and placed tenth in the U16 bracket. Leah DiGiandomenico ’14 played with the Washington Wolves Club and placed 13th in the U19 bracket and Lauren Hiltz ‘14 played with Freedom HKY and placed 12th in the U19 bracket.

MDSA Golf Team - IAAM B Conference Champions!

The golf team went undefeated this season and became IAAM B Conference Champions. They beat IND at a close match on Tuesday, April 23.
