On Monday, September 26, Annie Wright '19 and Mackenzie Baynes '19 participated in the 14th Annual Morgan Family Foundation Golf Classic at the Country Club of Maryland. SeaPerch National Challenge

Several MDSA SeaPerch teams attended the SeaPerch National Challenge at Louisiana State University on Saturday, May 21. Each team competed in three pool events and submitted a poster describing their SeaPerch and how their team worked together to complete the design. Science Department Chair Clair Sargo adds, “We had a great time and look forward to continuing our SeaPerch adventures next year in STEM!”

Victorian Tea Party

After spending the fourth quarter reading and analyzing Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel Jane Eyre and studying the Victorian Era, freshman English classes enjoyed friendship and treats at a Victorian Tea Party in Alumnae Hall. Dressed in party attire, the girls sampled a variety of “small bites” including scones, cookies, pastries, and shortbread.

Sailors Attend Music in the Parks!

Over the weekend, the MDSA Chorus, Concert Choir, and Orchestra traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia to participate in a musical competition hosted by Music in the Parks, a festival for student choral, orchestral, and band ensembles, held annually across the United States. The groups had the opportunity to perform on stage in front of adjudicators who gave scores, written comments, and recorded comments.

Sailors Compete in the SeaPerch Challenge

Four MDSA teams from the STEM class competed on Saturday, April 9, in the Maryland Regional SeaPerch Challenge, hosted by the US Naval Academy. SeaPerch is a collaborative effort between the Office of Naval Research and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. The SeaPerch Program, designed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, teaches underwater robotics to middle and high school students through the hands-on activity of building their own robots. Our teams competed in the high school division and two of the MDS teams placed into the final round of competition. A third MDS team won the Math Challenge with an almost-perfect score. All finalists earned a spot in the 2016 National SeaPerch Challenge.

Today, we rejoice as three students entered the Catholic Church during our all school Mass. An additional student, Sonia Lee’18, was previously baptized and received into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Following Mass, family and fellow students attended a lovely reception in the library to celebrate this joyous occasion. The Archdiocese of Baltimore Department of Catholic Schools held the 24th Annual Distinguished Scholars Convocation on April 5 at Mercy High School. Each year this Convocation celebrates the recognition of the top academic students in the Archdiocese over their four years of high school. The academic convocation applauds and affirms what is accomplished at each individual Catholic school and demonstrates the unity and common mission of the pursuit of academic excellence within the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Scholarship Breakfast

On March 10, Mount de Sales Academy scholarship benefactors and recipients joined together for a breakfast in the Music Hall to celebrate the spirit of giving. Mount de Sales has substantially increased tuition assistance and scholarships offered to incoming and current students. This is possible in large part because of benefactor funded scholarships that provide a variety of student aid such as merit, service, advocacy, and need based.

The 27th Annual Father-Daughter Cotillion was held on Saturday, March 5. This momentous event is a new tradition for some, a returning joy for others, and a farewell for seniors. Seniors enjoyed a special dinner with their fathers in the Music Hall before the dance began. The rest of the night was spent dancing, laughing, and celebrating!

Farewell, Mr. Wright!

We said goodbye to an esteemed teacher at Mount de Sales Academy. Mr. George Wright, who taught at MDSA for almost 18 years, celebrated his final day at school last Friday."He was a selfless, giving, and kind teacher, and friend to all who knew him," shared former student and current MDSA teacher Jessica Ames Nyman '01. He will be missed, but we wish him well in his retirement. He was presented with a beautiful memory book with reflections from colleagues and former students.

Sailors Travel to Nashville!

On Presidents’ weekend, 35 Mount de Sales girls, along with faculty and parent chaperones, journeyed to Nashville, Tennessee to visit St. Cecilia Motherhouse, the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters who serve here at Mount de Sales. While in Nashville, the girls volunteered at a shelter for women and children in need, visited downtown Nashville, and spent a day at Bethany Retreat House outside Nashville.

Laying of the Wreaths - Arlington National Cemetery

The Support the Troops club visited Arlington National Cemetery over the weekend to lay wreaths at the gravesites of soldiers. They witnessed the “Laying of the Wreaths” ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. More than 40,000 volunteers placed 230,000 wreaths at gravesites throughout the cemetery honoring the brave men and women our country.

The MDSA It’s Academic team will be on TV this Saturday, November 22 at 10:00am on WJZ. Tune in to see Maryanna Antoldi '15, Clara Jeske '15, and Rachel Teti '16 compete against Carver Center and Roland Park. The girls did a fantastic job! Congratulations! “Rethink Recycling” Sculpture Contest

On Friday, November 14, at the 13th annual “Rethink Recycling” Sculpture Contest, hosted by the Maryland Department of the Environment in Baltimore, Basia Syski ’17 won first place in the workmanship category for creating “The Circle of Life,” a sculpture made using cardboard and fabric. She received a Galaxy Tablet. Both Payton Tibbo ‘17 and Emma Stair ’17 received honorable mentions.

Sips with Sisters

MDSA will host a morning Sips with Sisters once a month from 7:15 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. to offer an opportunity for students to relax and enjoy the company of their fellow sisters while drinking a morning cup of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea. Our hope is to get donations so that we do not need to charge the students for this initiative. We are looking for parents to donate any of the following:

Please note that these specialized embossed MDSA announcements cannot be ordered after October 30. Late orders will not be accepted.

Senior Gown Fittings

The Class of 2015 will be fitted for their graduation dresses on Wednesday, October 29. Love it at Stella's Bridal & Fashions will be at school for the dress fittings. The dress costs $243.80 (Tax included). Payment is due at the time of the dress fittings. Each senior has an appointment time to come to the Bird Room for their dress fitting that school day. Mothers are welcome to come join their daughter as they get measured and try on their graduation dresses.

Living Rosary

The Knights of Columbus brought the Rosary to life with the Living Rosary tradition. The Rosary is life size and held by members of each class who sign up to hold a bead and to say a prayer. The interactive event is an opportunity for the entire school to come and pray together.

Fall Fest and Talent Show

We had a spirited Fall Festival and Talent show on Friday, October 17. The seniors started the day bright and early to deck the halls with red and to welcome the cars in the morning with shouts and cheers. Students dressed in creative outfits that showcased their class spirit. After classes students enjoyed lunch on the piazza followed by the Talent Show and the announcement of the Powder Puff Queen and her Court. Congratulations to the Seniors for placing first in the Talent Show! Congratulations to the Powder Puff Queen and her Court!

The first iPray of the year is tomorrow, Friday October 17. There will be a talk given by Miss Mastroianni, adoration, confession, and praise and worship from a talented musician from 7-8 p.m. Afterwards there will be food and karaoke from 8-9 p.m. Come and have fun!

This is to ensure that all orders will be delivered before we depart for Christmas break. Reminder: Students who sell at least $450 of MixedBags (before taxes) will receive a FREE prom ticket! We receive 50% of our total sales, which goes towards helping with the cost of the Junior/Senior Prom.
