Facius Leads Sailors at IAAM Track Championships

Facius Leads Sailors at IAAM Track Championships

Contributing to three event wins and a second place, Samantha Facius ’19 led Mount de Sales at the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference Track and Field Championships held May 10 and 15.

Overall MDSA placed third in the completion scoring 127 points. Winning the team title was McDonogh with Maryvale second.  MDSA almost doubled fourth place Bryn Mawr’s total in the eight school conference.

A win in the 4x800 meter relay with teammates Amelia Getka, ’18, Erin Kosloski, ’18, and Katerina Boutselis, ’18, opened day one’s competition.  With her sister Sailors handing Facius the baton and a healthy cushion which she built on for the win by almost 10-seconds in 9:42.31.

The IAAM honors event winners as All Conference athletes.  All four Sailors will be recognized with that honor.
Facius later placed second in 3200 meter run on day one.

Forecasted rain postponed the championship finale to Monday, May 15, and MDSA scored points in all but three of the 18 contested events.

Coming into the meet as the top seed in the 1600 and 800 meter runs, Facius lived up to that billing with a pair of firsts. Taking the 1600 in 5:00.60 and the 800 in 2:17.92.

Breaking a MDSA school record was Bella Whittaker with a time of 56.97 seconds in the 400 meters where she placed second.

Also contributing event points to the team score were:
