Mount de Sales Academy Celebrates New Biology Lab

Today Mount de Sales Academy (MDSA) held the blessing and celebration of its new Biology Lab, a $50,000 project made possible by a $25,000 matching grant from the Theresa F. Truschel Charitable Foundation and generous contributions from the MDSA  Parents’ Club, Alumnae Association, Board of Trustees and friends of Mount de Sales Academy.  Reverend Michael J. Roach, pastor of St. Bartholomew in Manchester, blessed the new laboratory at the ceremony attended by the board members of the Theresa F. Truschel Charitable Foundation, students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumnae, donors and families of the school.

Principal Sister Mary Thomas Huffman, O.P. commented, “In our complex world, leaders in science need more than ever to value both reason and faith so they may search for the answers that science can bring within an ethical framework. These labs help us to continue to be part of preparing those scientists for tomorrow. "

Students participated in the blessing ceremony and senior Julia Giermek added, “The new biology lab improves our learning environment, places emphasis on the importance of science at Mount de Sales, and increases efficiency during labs, which allows for more class time.”

Science Department Chair, Ms. Claire Sargo noted, “We are so blessed to have the new biology lab at Mount de Sales.  It really helps make science come alive for our students. The new facilities will help the science department expand its curriculum and entice more students to delve deeper into the science electives.”

Immediately following the ceremony, guests attended a reception held in the Padre Pio Library.
