Record Setting Track Team

Five school records helped Mount de Sales celebrate its fifth straight appearance at the New Balance Indoor National High School Track and Field Championships. Nearly 4,000 high school athletes from 40 states plus Canada and the Caribbean competed in the three-day, March 11-13, meet in New York City.

There were no opening night jitters on Friday, March 11, as Cecilia Craig '16, Katerina Boutselis '18, Edeline Davies '19, and Kayla Hamilton '16, won their heat of the 4x400 meter relay. A time of four-minutes, 1.07 seconds took two seconds off the mark set five weeks earlier by the same girls. That performance placed ninth overall out of 42 teams qualified for the event.

For the first time in MDSA track history the Sailors qualified athletes for the Nationals Freshman Division and Edeline Davies and Samantha Facius sprung forward with daylight saving time on Sunday morning. Despite the early hour, 9 a.m., Facius unleashed a big kick over the final 300 meters of the mile run to win her heat, the first of two, in 5:12.08 and lower the MDSA record and place 7th overall out of 32 total qualifiers. With official timing also at the shorter 1500 meter distance, Facius' sprint to the finish set a MDSA record time of 4:53.98 for that mark.

Shortly after Samantha’s effort Davies stepped on the track for the shortest race distance of the meet and broke school marks at 55 and 60 meters with times of 7.44 and 8.02 seconds respectively.

The 1600 meter sprint medley relay team of Amanda Grebosky '17, Davies, Hamilton and Craig was the highest placed Maryland school in the of the event with a time of 4:15.56.

Congratulations to the Track team!
