Relay Team’s Time is Second in the Nation!

On Saturday, February 9, the Mount de Sales relay team of Samantha Facius '19, Bella Whittaker '20, Emily Kosloski '21, and Juliette Whittaker '22, traveled to New York to compete in the 112th Millrose Games, famed as the premiere indoor track meet in the world.  Based on their #6 ranking in the United States in the 4X800 relay, Mount de Sales had been invited to compete against the other top 12 teams in the nation. Their time of 9:26.45 had gotten them this far. The larger questions were how much could they improve beyond this and would they be competitive on the national stage.

The race had plenty of drama with MDSA assuming the lead at one point and dropping the baton at another. Juliette ran the fastest leg of anyone in the race, a 2:08.96 in nearly winning at the end. The final time was an amazing 9:07.87, second place and .4 seconds behind the winner Union Catholic of New Jersey.  The relay team’s time is now second in the United States and I believe fourth of all time at the Millrose Games. Parents accompanied their daughters; Lauren Gulmert served as an alternate for the team and, though she did not run, generously assisted her teammates.
