Sailors for Service

Sailors for Service

Over the summer, MDSA parents Jacqui Magnes ’86 and Bruce Howard organized a Sailors for Service trip.  The team worked with the Greater Greenbriar Long Term Recovery Center (GGLTRC) to rebuild White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia after the devastating flood of June 2016.

Mrs. Magnes-Howard shares the following about their service experience:

“Sailors for Service donated $2,000 and did the following work: painted indoors, mowed grass, cut shrubs, painted yellow curbs, laid sod, assembled furniture, installed a fence, wrapped a house in Tyvek, and installed insulation panels in home foundations.  On more than one occasion, our group was commended for our willingness to assist with any task.  The organization was very impressed with the efficiency and quality of work that our team produced and welcomed us to come back next year.  Our girls had an opportunity to meet people impacted by the flood and work side by side with them to rebuild their homes.  It was a great experience for everyone.”

Thank you to our students, chaperones, and sponsors for their generosity.

“It is not how much you do but how much love you put into the doing and sharing with others that is important.” - Saint Teresa of Calcutta
