MDSA Holds Ceremonial Ground Blessing

Mount de Sales Academy held a ceremonial blessing to celebrate construction commencing on the Center for Performing Arts and Student Life. At this momentous time, Mount de Sales Academy (MDSA) enters the final phase of the Anchored in Excellence. Charting our Future. Capital Campaign (an estimated $12 million project with $5.2 million of $6 million goal raised).

Speaking to a crowd of over 150 guests, Principal Sister Mary Raymond, O.P., shared, “We are truly grateful to the Mount de Sales community for making this long-time dream become a reality.  This is a historic day!  As we bless this ground, my prayer is that the Center for Performing Arts and Student Life may be a continued source of blessings for young women now and generations to come. The arts form culture, and culture forms us.  I am so proud of that our young women will now have their own space for this prime opportunity to grow and flourish through their participation in the arts.”

Board of Trustee Vice President Tom Campbell P’14 also spoke on the significance of this project and how the MDSA campus has made substantial improvements, additions, and expansion over the last decade.

Fine arts student Cecilia Canan ‘20 added, “The students desire and love of the arts at Mount de Sales has kept this program growing beyond the spaces. I look forward to returning as an alumna where I can take part in the gifts of the past, present, and future within our community. On behalf of all the students and members of the arts department, we would like to thank you for all that you have done to contribute to the building and opening of our very own Center for Performing Arts and Student Life.”

The ceremonial blessing was conducted by Trustee Father Michael J.P. Roach and Director of Operations Deacon Mark Cohagan P’07 ’11. Each guest was given a river rock to write sentiments and prayer intentions. The blessed rocks will be placed alongside the CPASL Cornerstone and used as part of the foundation for the new building.

The program concluded with the MDSA acapella group, led by Music Director Jeff Hosier, singing the alma mater.
