Serving with Purpose: The Purple Sheep Project at MDSA
Service Coordinator Jessica Hechter and students joined the Purple Sheep Project, founded by Gabby H. ’27, to bring stuffed animals and books to children in need!
Ms. Hechter shares, “Every winter, MDSA collaborates with an outside organization to collect donations for those in need. The annual winter service project is unique because it engages the entire school and encourages each community member to participate - students, faculty, and staff. Moreover, this service project challenges students to be generous without receiving anything in return; there is no incentive or "reward" for bringing in a donation.
By partnering with Tree House Advocacy Center via the Purple Sheep Project, this year’s service project encourages students to consider their own childhood, their own family, and their own possessions and thus challenges students to think of children who may not have had the same childhood, the same security, or the same possessions. Compassionate service is one of the pillars of the MDSA mission statement, and this service project fosters the formation of compassionate, generous hearts.”
