Inclement Weather Policy:
With winter weather fast approaching, we want to ensure that our families are informed about the inclement weather policy, special schedules, and Blizzard Bags.
MDSA follows the policy of Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) in regard to inclement weather and resulting closings, early dismissals, and delayed openings. Please visit the BCPS website for weather-related morning closures and/or delayed openings. Additionally, MDSA will send an Emergency Alert if there is a delay, closure, or if we need to dismiss early for an emergency or issue concerning the MDSA campus. Please see signup instructions below.
Two-hour delay on a Flex Delay: If there is a two-hour delay on a Flex Delay schedule (for instance, this Wednesday), Mount de Sales will follow our standard two-hour delay schedule. Any events or meetings that were set to occur within the Flex Delay hour, would be canceled.
Two-hour delay on a 12:30 Dismissal: If there is a two-hour delay on a 12:30 p.m. dismissal schedule, school would be canceled for the day.
Blizzard Bags: So that “Snow Days” do not negatively impact our last day of school, Mount de Sales utilizes a “Blizzard Bag” protocol. This allows instruction to move forward and thus, prevents the school from having to extend the school year. Students are asked to log into their classes which they would have had THAT day and complete the ‘snow’ assignment which the teacher has posted. This year, we have one snow day built into the school calendar. This means that Blizzard Bags will go into effect starting on the second Snow Day of the school year.
- Teachers upload a “lesson” to the Class One Note Notebook which can be accessible online after 9 a.m. The lesson may consist of a flipped lesson video, or chapter work that keeps the curriculum moving forward. The assignment should not take more than 40-50 minutes.
- The due date of the work will be noted on the page. The teachers will make provisions for students who may have lost power during the snow storm.
- This Blizzard Bag policy will only go into effect once we have used our allotted snow days for the year. (Starting with the second Snow Day this year.)
We are happy that our technology affords us the ability to keep our school calendar intact.
