Getting Involved

Getting Involved!

The school spirit at Mount de Sales Academy is evidenced by three characteristics: mutual respect, personal responsibility, and support for one another and for the school as a whole. These qualities help to build and nurture a sense of belonging for every Mount de Sales girl. Each student’s contribution is valued as important to passing on the spirit of Mount de Sales Academy.

Every student is encouraged to participate in one or more extracurricular activities. While student interests dictate some clubs and activities, others are permanently established. Mount de Sales Academy hosts a chapter of the National Honor Society, and a Student Council affiliated with the Maryland Association of Student Councils.

The Mount de Sales Academy Community welcomes the creativity and the evolving interests of our students by giving them the opportunity to establish new clubs. Every club maintains a faculty or staff moderator who serves as a mentor to the club members and facilitator of club activities.

  • ACE Club

ACE Club is part of the ACE Mentor Program, a national organization that pairs mentors from the architecture, construction and engineering industries with students in order to complete a design project. Students gain knowledge about the different components of the construction industry, present their final design at the final presentation event and seniors are eligible to apply for ACE scholarships.
  • CyberPatriot Club

CyberPatriot is a part of the National Youth Cyber Education Program, created by the Air Force Association to encourage students to learn about cybersecurity. The club participates in the CyberPatriot competition, comprised of several rounds where students focus on identifying vulnerabilities in computer operating systems. Participants will learn about various operating systems, cyber safety, digital citizenship and may be eligible for internships and scholarships focused on cybersecurity.
  • Equine Club

Mount de Sales has a long history with horses. In the early years, students learned to ride horses as part of their boarding school curriculum. Since its beginning in January of 2017, The Equine Club is making strong connections in the community with farm visits to learn about equine anatomy and physiology, horse recuse programs, equine therapy, and natural horsemanship practices. Members enjoy rides together, as well as learn about how horses are utilized in service to others.
  • Mock Trial

Mock Trial is an interscholastic competition that gives students the opportunity to learn about legal proceedings and contemporary legal issues in Maryland through friendly competition before professional judges and attorneys. Students receive a case and prepare, with the assistance of attorney coaches, the faculty advisor, and their peers, to argue that case against Mock Trial teams from other public and private schools located in Baltimore & Harford Counties. Participation in Mock Trial increases students' awareness of current issues and hones the skills of argumentation, thinking on one's feet, and public speaking.
  • Photography + Design Club

Members of this club provide services to other MDSA student groups and organizations through photography and graphic design while exploring their creative side outside of the classroom. Students practice various photography skills to capture MDSA and non-MDSA moments. They also apply their creative, organizational, and Adobe Suite skills to design for various school events.
  • Support the Troops Club

The Support the Troops Club is dedicated to raising awareness to all our military does to keep us safe and free. We sponsor Operation Welcome Home events at BWI, Cupcake Wars, Laying of the Wreaths at Arlington Cemetery, Sailors for Soldiers 5K and many other events throughout the year. Funds raised go to helping various veteran organizations such as Fisher House and the Wounded Warrior Project.
  • Global Outreach Club

As a club, G.O. focuses on ways we can live out the mission of service by helping those around us in need. Whether it is service in our home communities, the Mount de Sales Community or the larger community of Maryland and beyond we strive to introduce others to Christ through our actions. We advocate, donate, and serve the needs internationally as well as those in our own neighborhood.
